RKM, the label inspired by the designer’s name Rhoda Kate Mphande is a brand with a style personified with a touch of the African heritage with the objective and endless desire to create clothing that adheres to elegance, modesty, class and no boundaries of who can be “Mad about prints” with her irresistible vibrant mix of African prints and striking colour combinations.
Rhoda Kate Mphande-Moyo is a multiple global award-winning fashion designer whose visionary work bridges continents, cultures, and communities. Born in Malawi and raised in Australia, Rhoda now operates between Switzerland and Australia—drawing on her rich multicultural journey to craft designs that boldly fuse African heritage with contemporary global fashion.
Her fearless creativity and boundary-breaking aesthetic earned her the title of the annual winner of the Best Diaspora Fashion Designer and Stylist in Switzerland in both 2019 and 2022.
CULTURAL AUTHENTICITY
In 2012, Rhoda founded RKM Global Fashion, a label that has become synonymous with vibrant, unapologetic style and cultural authenticity. As a pioneering force in African fashion in Melbourne, she has established herself not only as a designer but as a cultural ambassador, using fashion as a powerful medium for storytelling, empowerment, and self-expression. Each RKM piece celebrates individuality, heritage, and rebellion against convention—designed for the bold, the expressive, and those unafraid to wear their identity with pride.
Rhoda’s collections range from striking ready-to-wear garments to bespoke creations, and are known for their intricate craftsmanship, vivid prints, and deeply rooted symbolism. In 2024, select pieces from RKM were featured at the National Gallery of Victoria Design Store as part of the Africa Fashion Exhibition, a landmark recognition of her contribution to the fashion landscape in Australia and beyond.
